The Punjab Unaided Colleges’ Association (PUCA), Punjab Unaided Technical Institutions Association (PUTIA) and Polytechnic Association have asked Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to release the pending amount of Rs 1,200 crore for the Post Matric Scholarship scheme.
In a joint press release, Dr Anshu Kataria, president, PUCA, urged the CM to issue directions to MRS-PTU, Bathinda, IKG-PTU, Jalandhar, Punjab State Board of Technical Education, and other government-affiliated universities to not to force colleges to pay the examinations fee till the government disburses Rs 1,200 crore for the Post Matric Scholarship. The amount has been pending for the past two or three years.
Rajinder Singh Dhanoa of the Poly Association said associations were always ready to support the government, but at the same time the board never gave a thought to welfare of the students. The board has shifted examination centres of around 70 polytechnic colleges, affecting 20,000 students, he said.
Nirmal Singh of the BEd Federation said Punjabi University and other affiliated varsities were charging fine from colleges for the late submission of documents and fees by the colleges which was highly condemnable.
